NOTICE OF PRIMARY ELECTION

Notice is hereby given that on the 13th day of May 2008, at the designated polling places in the voting precincts of Otoe County, Nebraska, an election will be held.  The polls will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.  Said election will be for nominating, or in some cases, electing candidates to various offices. Issues will be posed to the qualified electors residing within the boundary lines of the Syracuse Rural Fire District and the Village of Otoe. One amendment will be voted upon in the Primary Election and the Secretary of State will publish a true copy of the title and text of such issue once each week for three consecutive weeks preceding the election.

In compliance with Section 32-811 R.R.S. Nebraska, 1943, in those cases where no more than two candidates filed for each vacancy to be filled, such candidates shall be declared nominated without opposition and will be issued a Certificate of Nomination. Their names will not appear on any Primary Election Ballots, but will automatically advance and be printed on the November 4, 2008, General Election Ballots. Listed hereafter are those offices that will not appear on the Primary Ballots: Members of the Board of Education in School Districts 111 Nebraska City; 027 Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca; N23 Johnson-Brock; 050 Johnson County Central; J33 Sterling; C56 Conestoga; C97 Elmwood-Murdock; 145 Waverly, Mayor of Syracuse, Mayor Nebraska City, Nebraska City Public Works Commissioner, Members of the Nebraska City Airport Authority; Directors of Nemaha NRD Sub-districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5; Director of Lower Platte South NRD Sub-district 2; Members of the Board of Governors Southeast Community College, District 2 and At Large.

As there were no more candidates filed in any of the voting precincts than are to be elected for Delegates to the Republican County Convention, each candidate is automatically elected; therefore, they will not appear on the Primary Election Ballot.

Elections for Directors of Educational Service Units, Village Board Trustees and Retention of Judges will be decided in the General Election, November 4, 2008.
